Spain’s category B DGT fee and exam attempts explained

The cost of obtaining a category B licence includes several items: the DGT fee, the medical assessment and driving-school services. Separating them helps you understand what you pay for and compare quotations.

How much is the fee?

The DGT’s electronic office shows €94.05 for licence-application fee 2.1 when checked on 7 October 2026. Check the official amount before paying, because it can change. The fee does not include driving-school tuition or the medical assessment.

How attempts are counted

The DGT says you must submit a new application and pay another fee after two failures, whether in the same test or different tests. You do not receive two fresh attempts for theory and another two for the practical test.

For example: you fail theory once, pass it later and fail the practical test. You have accumulated two failures across the tests. Passing theory does not erase the earlier failure; check your application record before entering again.

Article 51 of the General Driver Regulations also says that not attending on the assigned date uses up the attempt, except in duly justified exceptional cases. If you cannot attend, check the procedure promptly.

What to ask the driving school

Request an itemised quotation and confirm:

  • What enrolment covers: materials, test access and other services.
  • Whether the official fee is included or paid separately.
  • What the school charges for administration and arranging your exam.
  • Lesson prices and costs if you need to repeat.
  • Whether changing schools or transferring your record adds a cost.

Do not confuse a school charge with a DGT fee. Compare what each offer includes too: a lower starting price may cover fewer services.

Before paying again

Check how many attempts you have used, whether any remain and whether you need a new application. Keep the receipts. Mazlet does not calculate your official remaining attempts, collect DGT fees or book exams.
