Spanish driving theory test in English: a preparation plan

You can study Spanish Category B theory in English without learning a second set of road rules. Keep two choices separate: the language of your study material and the language requested for your official exam. Mazlet provides independent learning questions; it does not arrange DGT exams.

Check the official language before booking

At the source check on 11 October 2026, the DGT’s Category B sample-test selector offered Inglés. Reach it through the official preparation page, choose Permiso B, then select the language. The DGT says its sample tests require no registration and the document field can be left blank.

That sample option is useful for familiarising yourself with the interface. It is not confirmation of a particular booked exam. Ask your driving school or the Jefatura handling your application to confirm that English has been requested, how to change the request if necessary and the conditions for your appointment. Changing Mazlet’s profile language does not change a DGT booking.

Learn the Spanish terms you will still see on the road

Spanish term Meaning to connect to the rule
Ceda el paso Give way; stop if necessary
Calzada / carril Carriageway / lane; they are not interchangeable
Arcén Hard shoulder or road shoulder; not an ordinary traffic lane
Poblado / travesía Built-up area / a through-road across one; identify the applicable road context
Turismo Passenger car; do not automatically apply its limits to every vehicle
Adelantar Overtake; check whether the manoeuvre is allowed

Use the term with a picture or situation. For example, count the lanes per direction, identify any reserved bus lane and check the signs before choosing a speed. Translating a single word is not enough to solve the situation.

A practical English study routine

  1. Read one Spanish-rule lesson in English and explain the decision aloud.
  2. Answer a short set of questions, then explain why each alternative is wrong.
  3. Keep a small list of words that changed your answer: must, may, only, except and not deserve attention.
  4. Revisit the same rule with a different sign or vehicle position, so you remember the decision rather than the answer’s location.
  5. Use the official English sample interface alongside your study plan. A short diagnostic and a complete timed mock serve different purposes.

If you choose to study in another language later, keep Spain selected. Belgian rules, regional procedures and scoring are a different course.

Before your appointment

Confirm the requested exam language and appointment details through your school or the official procedure. Prepare the documents your application requires, and use the current DGT information for fees and booking rather than an old translated screenshot. This guide does not guarantee an exam date, pass or language arrangement.
